It was a really neglected site when the professional garden designer first visited. The last inhabitants of the cottage were polish pilots during the war! The client needed a useful outside space as the cottage itself is tiny inside, so we built a large Millboard decking area covered by an oak pergola. A large dining table will sit comfortably on the deck, whilst vines and jasmine are being trained over the pergola to eventually create a covered cave-like space, nestled into the rocky outcrop. The client hopes to be able to use the space regularly for entertaining and is delighted that the composite decking will not need any maintenance. The raised herb garden is reminiscent of an old well, and provides a focal planting feature and place to perch in the courtyard area, where the client plans to install a pizza oven. The paving in the garden is a mixture of sandstone sets and pavers. We also built a stone retaining wall along the foot of the steep bank, which ties in with the steep communal steps at the side.
We are fully trained installers of Millboard composite decking and have used it in quite a few client gardens.
