The clients have lived in this property since their children were young and now, approaching retirement, they wanted to create a garden that would reflect the next phase of their lives. The new garden needed to be relatively easy to maintain, but with enough planting to allow for interesting seasonal changes and good summer colour. Informal seating areas, including the option for the occasional ‘crowd’ were also important.
Circular lawn, with small inset patio helps to direct the visual focus into the centre of the garden; raised beds doubling as informal seating when needed; beach pebble/cobbles instead of gravel, with slow growing, low, planting ; mix of shrubs, herbaceous perennials and ornamental grasses/bamboo which will eventually surround the lawn and soften strong lines of the walled boundaries.
The garden was designed and planted by Belinda Macdonald of Shades of Green Garden Design (now retired).
