Dunfermline

Project Background

The client has lived in her suburban home for many years. She enjoys being able to relax outdoors and uses her garden on dry days throughout the year.  Now retired, she has more time to enjoy the garden but decided that an upgrade was needed. She liked the fact that her garden has interesting ‘nooks and crannies’ but doesn’t like being overlooked by neighbours and hated the soggy lawn and ugly paving.

Landscaping Notes

The first job was to remove the crumbling brick-edged alpine bed from the patio area, lift all the concrete paving slabs and remove the old shed. We used timber sleepers to build an L shaped low raised bed alongside the boundary fence, two free-standing raised beds to divide up the garden areas and a narrow raised bed along the house wall so that planting could be used to soften an otherwise featureless wall. Indian sandstone paving was laid in a random course pattern, with 20mm local grey-toned gravel along the edges of the paving to drain rainwater run off and create a softer look to the L shaped patio. Black stained trellis panels were installed in two of the raised beds to screen the patio from the lawn area and new black-stained shed (which was built by us), and on the house wall by the back door.

The rear garden had brick raised beds on two sides and these were also crumbling. Timber sleepers were used to face the brickwork, securing the planting and creating a visual link with the raised beds in the patio area. We took out the old lawn, dug over the ground, reshaped the lawn bed and raised the level to improve drainage for the replacement lawn. Everedge stainless steel edging was used to support the new lawn. The existing gravel areas on either side of the lawn were extended and laid with fresh 20mm local Scottish gravel.

The client was so pleased with the new lawn that she asked us the replace the lawn and install a low fence in the front garden.

Testimonial

“To say that I am ‘over the moon’ is an understatement! Lee and his tremendous trio were outstanding from start to finish. Professional, polite and totally focussed on the customer, they were responsive to my initial requirements and accommodated changes as the transformation unfolded: listening carefully, providing suggestions and solutions and crafting a perfect end result. I am back in love with my garden! Delighted!”
